Pilgrimage of the Word

Who, when and why

Who

Pilgrimage of the Word was created by Dave Smith, a retired physiotherapist and member of Church Crookham Baptist Church. The website is maintained by Mike Gibbons who also lives in Church Crookham.

Dave can be contacted at davidborrowdale54@hotmail.com

When

Dave had been thinking about pilgrimage for some time before setting up the first website in 2018. The Treacle Abbey community used the Pilgrimage of the Word approach for virtual pilgrimages during the COVID pandemic in 2020 and 2021. This new website was set up in 2023.

Why

God may be found anywhere, there is no need to travel to a special location, but as the apostle James recognised, we still have to seek Him: “Come near to God and he will come near to you.

Pilgrimage of the Word can help make a spiritual journey in search of truth and wisdom. We seek an encounter with God in Scripture through a contemplative journey of prayer and reflection; this page discusses what the Bible says about pilgrimage.

The Pilgrimage of the Word accepts the universal orthodox Christian beliefs expressed in the Nicene Creed as explained here: https://www.englishtexts.org/the-nicene-creed
